Prepare a Vehicle Winter Emergency Kit in Swansea MA

Winter is here in full force and as such it might be a good idea to check over, or prepare, a vehicle winter emergency kit! This kit is designed to help you stay safe and comfortable in the event of a winter emergency such as after a crash or other hazardous situation. Continue reading below to see what three tips we recommend you employ when preparing your winter kit!

Prepare a Basic Winter Survival Kit

The first thing that we recommend is that you prepare a basic winter survival kit – a selection of items that are designed to let you stay warm, and full of energy, for a short period of time. We recommend preparing this kit right before a long journey, as some items are not long-lasting. Examples of some items we recommend keeping in this kit is a flashlight, blanket, batteries for all needed electronics, snacks for energy, water, boots, gloves, a basic first aid kit, and a survival or swiss-army knife.

Prepare Your Vehicle for Travel

You should also make sure that your vehicle is prepared for travel. This means checking key systems and parts, such as your tires and tire chains (which we recommend bringing), checking the weather, and doing any needed servicing early. You should also keep your fuel tank above half in order to have a good amount of fuel in the event you’re stranded.

Basic Winter Driving Items

Finally, some basic winter items we recommend you keep in your vehicle at all times are tire chains, and ice scraper/snowbrush, jumper cables, and road flares. These items will allow you to drive safer and be prepared for a variety of situations.
