Alcohol Works Best

When it comes to cleaning the interior for your vehicle, alcohol is the best solution by far. It’s the cleaner that’s used by the manufacturers of automatic interiors, and it kills most germs and illnesses. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends alcoholic solutions with at least 70% alcohol content in order to completely kill the COVID-19 virus, so we recommend you use such a cleaner. Soap and water, with vigorous cleaning, can be another good alternative though not as effective.

What not to Use

You should avoid bleach and hydrogen peroxide cleaners, as while both chemicals will kill the COVID-19 virus, they will also cause damage to plastics and vinyls found in modern vehicles. Under no circumstances should you use ammonia-based cleaning products, they will break down your vinyl materials and cause damage to displays and other surfaces.

Where to Focus Cleaning

Your steering wheel is the number one location you should target when you’re cleaning your vehicle, and so alcohol wipes alone could be a solid investment. According to estimates, there are four times the germs on your steering wheel than the average toilet seat, so it’s very likely where the virus will be located. Additionally, you should clean controls for radio, cruise control, navigation, and similar locations that are commonly used.
